I have some concerns. Do you?

Did you know North Snohomish County Outreach and Generations Community Church are planning to put a homeless pallet shelter in the Generations Community Church parking lot on the corner of 64th Street and 83rd Ave NE? No? That's because they only notified people living within 600 feet and they only posted project information on their website on June 17th. They haven't included community stakeholders such as residents or business owners in their planning. Their current permit application is for a 90 day pilot program, but NSCO and GCC plan to request the city to change the city code permanently. If that happens there were no longer be any restrictions on the creation of new homeless shelters, encampments or pallet within the City of Marysville.

My kids catch the bus across the street. They learned to ride their bikes in that parking lot. We've been anxiously waiting for the the Trunk or Treat and Easter Egg hunts to resume. I feel betrayed by Generations Community Church and NSCO.

Mayor Jon Nehring and City of Marysville Community Development Director, Haylie Miller, have been incredibly open to communication with concerned residents and are eager to hear our input. I haven't felt the same from NSCO or Generations CC. In fact, Generations CC has closed commenting on their Facebook posts.

Transitional housing is not housing. A 64 square foot box with no electricity, kitchen, plumbing or heating is not a home. We need to help the homeless but not at the cost of their dignity or our safety.
